Q-O2 is a structurally subsidised workspace for experimental contemporary music and sound art since 2006 and has its own space in the Brussels canal zone. The workspace developed out of the contemporary music ensemble Q-O2.

In practice, Q-O2 operates at three levels: it offers working residencies to artists, carries out projects in collaboration with national and international arts organisations, and holds performances and concerts in its own space.

In musical terms Q-O2 explores mainly three lines of approach: acoustic, electronic improvisation, and composed music as well as installations and sound art. Through its conceptual preoccupations, Q-O2 finds easily points of access to other disciplines.

Type of residency

The residencies at Q-O2 offer time and space for artistic research, reflection, and creation in the field of experimental music and sound art. For each residency, we provide the necessary technical equipment, a travel allowance, and accommodation in the Q-O2 apartment.

Residencies are usually between two and four weeks long, and we will be in favour of artists who are ready to work with a group of youths once for half a day.

Upon completion of the residency, a presentation to an audience can be arranged if desired but is not expected of the artist. What they require are some traces of the residency, whether these are left in word, image and/or audio form.

The next deadline is May 30th 2018 for residencies in 2019. To apply, you can send an email to briefly introduce yourself and describe what you want to work on during the residency.
