AIR Zandberg

AIR Zandberg is a new residency programme for professional artists. The residency is located at De Zandberg in Harelbeke. De Zandberg is a workspace for artists with a disability and is part of a welfare organisation. Artists in residence are given the opportunity to live and work in this special place.

The mission of De Zandberg is to support artists with a disability on an individual and daily basis. The workspace is always looking for interesting and symbolic places to exhibit as well as for partners, artists and organisations. Residents make an important and specific contribution to breaking open the boundaries between society and the workspace.

Type of residency

A residency period can start from 15 October. AIR Zandberg and the artist agree together on the duration of the residency period.

AIR Zandberg offers:
– support from artistic mentors;
– accommodation and workspace: one room, divided into a workplace (6m x 4.80m) and a place to sleep (2.20m x 4.50m). There is also a shower room and a kitchen on the ground floor. The sleeping place offers sleeping accommodation for two people;
– catering within the working hours of the workspace (breakfast and lunch during the week).

Artists can submit a proposal. They can also join current projects or propose concrete collaborations with artists involved in the workspace. De Zandberg regularly invites the artists to take part in collective projects or exhibitions.

Outcome of the residency: There are no explicit requirements or expectations. We assume the
presence and work of the resident will undoubtedly offer dynamism, questions and comments and
opportunities. We do expect the resident to interact with the artists of De Zandberg. This is also
inevitable. For example, at noon we eat together.

Proposals (max. 2 A4) are to be submitted before October 1, 2018. For 2019 we would like to receive proposals by 1 March. The submitted proposals are evaluated on the basis of the quality of the proposal, the return for De Zandberg and the practical/organisational feasibility. The selection will be announced at the end of September.

Disciplines

The residence focuses primarily on visual artists. By extension, performing artists and writers can also reside at De Zandberg. De Zandberg also develops its own clothing line with label Amili Haha. Designers can therefore also reside.
